Song of the Day: Dieuleul-Dieuleul by Aby Ngana Diop

I love West African music, especially Senegalese music. In the 90s my friend in Detroit imported cassette releases from African artists and I was able to get rarities by my favorites as well as discover new sounds.

One of the albums I got from him was this cassette by a Senegalese griot named Aby Ngana Diop. She does a kind of traditional rapping called Taasu and combines both traditional and more contemporary styles. Sadly , she passed away in 1997 and this 6 track album is her only release.

Dieuleul-Dieuleil is the first track and sets the tone for her nonstop high energy music.
