I Got Covid

I had managed to avoid it for almost three years, but it finally caught up with me a week before Christmas.

I’m vaccinated and I got all of the boosters, including the latest one in September, and I never stopped wearing a mask when I rode transit, went shopping, or attended any indoor event.

I even went to a large indoor concert in November where I wore a mask the entire time. A few days later I received an exposure notification on my phone, but I remained negative and didn’t develop any symptoms.

I’ve been eating in restaurants for a while and I started to let my guard down a bit. I even walked around without a mask in the ferry building a few days before, which I think is probably where I caught it.

The Saturday before Hanukkah, I woke up with a very bad cough and stuffy nose, so I took a Covid test which was positive. Thankfully since I had the booster a few months ago, it was fairly mild. I never developed a fever, but I still felt tired & achy. My sense of smell got messed up around the third day — I could still smell coffee and most foods, but I couldn't smell soap or (thankfully) my cat’s litterbox.

Around the 6th day I was feeling a lot better, but I contined to take it easy. On the 10th day I tested negative, although I’m still wearing a mask whenever I go out and avoiding crowds or eating in restaurants.
