Anyone who thinks an independent candidate can win is either delusional or knows nothing about US politics.

No independent candidate has ever won more than 10% of the vote. The only thing they've ever done is split the vote. Thanks to our electoral college, they gave us G. W. Bush in 2000 and Trump in 2016 even though both candidates lost the popular vote.
